A mask doesn't cause fog — it aims it. Every breath you exhale is warm and humid, and without a mask that air disperses in every direction. With a mask on, it has one route out: up, along the nose bridge, straight onto the back of your lenses. It's near-constant, concentrated airflow of exactly the conditions that cause condensation. That's why mask-fogging feels so much worse than a cold morning ever does.
The better the mask seal, the worse the fog. A well-fitted surgical or N95 mask is doing its job by directing air away from the front — which is exactly what sends it up into your glasses.

1. Repositioning the mask
Pulling the mask slightly higher or lower changes where breath escapes, sometimes enough to divert it away from your lenses. It's free and instant, but it's inconsistent — it depends on your face shape, the mask style, and how well it fits that day. Worth trying first. Won't fix it on its own for most people.
2. Tucking a tissue under the top edge
Folding a tissue and tucking it along the inside of the mask's top edge, over the nose bridge, absorbs some moisture and blocks a bit of upward airflow. It genuinely helps a little. It also needs redoing constantly, looks exactly as makeshift as it sounds, and does nothing for the fogging you get from cold weather or exercise once the mask's off.
3. A mouldable nose strip
Most surgical and many cloth masks have a thin metal strip along the top — press it firmly into the shape of your nose bridge and it seals that gap properly, cutting off the upward airflow at the source. This is the most effective of the mask-adjustment methods and costs nothing if your mask already has one. It reduces mask-fogging noticeably. It doesn't touch any fogging caused by temperature change or exertion, and it only works as well as the seal you can actually get.
4. Washing lenses with soapy water
A thin film of soap, rinsed and left to dry (not wiped off completely), leaves a residue that reduces fogging on the same principle as purpose-made anti-fog products. It's a real emergency fix if you're stuck with nothing else. It's also inconsistent — too much soap and you get smearing, too little and it does nothing — and it's not something you want to redo every morning before you leave the house.
5. Wearing glasses over the mask strap
Looping the mask's ear straps over your glasses arms pulls the top of the mask slightly tighter against your face, improving the seal in the same way a nose strip does. Combine it with method 3 and you get a decent improvement. On its own, it's marginal, and it doesn't solve anything unrelated to mask-wearing.

A treated lens doesn't stop moisture from landing on it — it stops that moisture from forming the light-scattering droplets that cause fog in the first place.
